The town of Ashbourne - Derbyshire is located in England and is a small town with a low population. The town is located in the Derbyshire Dales. Many of the people in the town like to call it the Gateway to Dove Dale. A dale in England is known as a valley with a river running through it and surrounded by mountains.

The football match is called Royal because the Prince of Wales attended the game centuries ago and later became King Edward of England. Prince Charles of England also attended the game and tossed out the first ball at the start of the games.

The market place has not changed since the medieval times and Victoria Square known as the shambles is where meat was cut up by butchers to sell. Many of the restaurants were built during the medieval times and consist of a timber framework. The North Staffordshire railway is also located in the town and the building is very old and has been there for centuries.

The town also holds an annual football match where most of the people who live in the town play football for two days. The games are known as the Royal Shrovetide Football Match. The football game has been held for centuries and moves through the local river beds, roads and fields. The attempts to ban the game have been unsuccessful.

The town is also known for Fair Trade status which promotes certified goods. The requirement for obtaining this status in the town requires that tea and coffee be served at the Fair Trade meetings. The status also requires that at least two of the Fair trade products are available in the local area shops, cafes and other business establishments.

The quaint market town is a great place to unwind and relax with many different cafes and eateries that offer tasty cuisines. The shopping choices are numerous and great for finding souvenirs and gifts. The accommodations are plentiful for lodging in charming stone cottages while visiting and country pubs can be found that offer evening meals. The bed and breakfast lodging facilities can include breakfast, and a market is offered in the Old Square in town twice a week.

Some sightseeing in Ashbourne - Derbyshire also includes arts festivals which take place once a year in June. The events last for several weeks and include a masquerade and an outdoor opera. The small town has many exciting adventures, activities and sights that can be found and visitors may want to return again year after year.
